Rene Borg (Head Coach)

Rene is the head coach of Glendalough AC and West Waterford AC and has been coaching athletes since 2007 espousing a natural, simple and sustainable approach to athletic development. He was first Irish coach to undertake the specialised 'Fell and Mountain Running Level 2' course held by the Fell Runners Association and UK Athletics and served on the Irish Mountain Running committee from 2008 to 2009. In 2009 to 2010 he was the team manager for the Irish Development Squad for the Snowdon International mountain race. In 2011 he was one of a small group of coaches invited to the first Lydiard Invitational Seminar, a 2 day course in Boulder to upskill coaches on the methods of legendary coaching Arthur Lydiard. The philosophy of Lydiard and his contemporary Percy Cerutty form the cornerstone of the training programme for Glendalough AC.

Rene also looks after general strength and conditioning and especially advanced biomechanical analysis, a skillset acquired through education as a MovNat Trainer and VivoBarefoot Certified Running Technique Coach. He is the founder of coaching company ChampionsEverywhere as well as cofounder of 'Primal3' a collaboration He has written for Athletics Illustrated, Irish Runner and Mud, Sweat and Tears magazines.

Rene is an experienced competitor over various distances from 1500m to 50 miles in all the major disciplines of running: road, crosscountry, track and mountain running and among the notable athletes he has worked with are 2:17 marathoner Barry Minnock, Wicklow Way record holder Paul Tierney and 2012 Carrauntoohil race winner Jason Kehoe.
