Main Awards

The primary awards that have been awarded every year at the Annual Xmas Party are:

  • Club Person of the Year: An award recognising contributions to the club that are not performance related.
  • Club Champion (since 2016): The winners of a series of club races. A male and female winner is crowned.
  • Road Performer/Performance of the Year: the best road and track performer of thee year.
  • Off-Road Performer/Performance: the best performer over cross-country, trail and hill.
  • Most Improved: The runner who has shown the most improvement from season to season or over a number of seasons.
  • Team of the Year: The best team performance of the year.

All awards are generally awarded based on a number of nominees being received in each category that members put to a vote.

As a general rule the Club Coach and/or Chairman cannot receive awards but he/she can be crowned winner of the Club Championship.

Defunct Awards

The ‘Athlete of the Year’ Award was only held once – in 2015 (won by Claire O’Callaghan). This was replaced by the Club Championship winners from 2016 onwards.

The Most PBs Award was only given out once (in 2017) but we can establish through statistic who would have won it each year.

New Awards

The Best Newcomer Award was introduced in 2022 for the first time. Like the Most PBs Award the Most Prolific Award was only awarded officially twice (2021 and 2022) but statistics allows us to go back and see who ‘would have won in previous year.

The Best Newcomer Award is given to a member who joined in the current season who other members feel have made the biggest contribution both socially, training-wise and race performances. Members who have attended at least one Glendalough AC session can be considered.
