Our club organises four events every year: the Lap of the Gap Marathon and Glen to Glen Half-marathon road races, the Run the Ridge 10 km and 20 km trail runs and a Winter Handicap League of 5 km and 10 km races in the winter period along with a Club Championship which runs all year with one event per month (sometimes piggy-backing off an existing race).
Lap Of The Gap
Cyclists have long known the allure of the ‘Lap of the Gap’ circuit taking you from the village of Laragh to the highland pass of Sallygap and back past Lough Tay (the ‘Guinness Lake’). A scenic route with plenty of ups and plenty of downs. From quiet country back lanes to the barren and dramatic heather landscapes once you pass the Glenmacnass Waterfall.
Both our marathon and half-marathon adds a ‘tail’ to the traditional Lap of the Gap to allow you to start in the monastic village of Glendalough – one of Ireland’s most popular tourist destinations.
We hope you will get not just a race out of our event – but an experience for a lifetime.
The event was successfully held the first time on 28 May 2016 with over 150 finishers over the two courses and takes place the last Saturday of May.
Run The Ridge
20 km mountain and trail run up across the spectacular Derrybawn Ridge. 10 km trail-only option available in Derrybawn Woods. Next August – date to be confirmed.
The ‘Run the Ridge’ race series consists of a 20 km mixed mountain and trail run, a 10 km trail run and a junior race. This race is setup to raise funds for local club Laragh GAA and organised with the help of experienced runners and organisers from Glendalough AC and MyRunResults.com.
Glendalough AC Winter League
The Glendalough AC Winter Handicap League is an informal series of races used by our club for steady Saturday runs. There’s no fee to attend and non-club members can come along to enjoy the courses and the chat and coffee afterwards.
The runs start at 9 am and for more details contact us.
